Route Inspiration
The rivers, the animals, the skies, the birds, the landscapes, the culture…The Wild Life!
Zambia has endless options to connect with nature and culture, create magical moments, and fully immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind travel adventure where you are so much more than a mere observer.
Western Circuit
The Westen Circuit is home of the upper Zambezi River, which floods every year into a vast network of river channels, reedbeds and showcases a fascinating landscape and economy heavily based on artisanal fishing and herding of the iconic Lozi cattle.
One of the least populated regions of Zambia, Barotseland offers spectacular vistas, fascinating history, the stunning Ngonye Falls, great tiger fishing and links nicely to Liuwa Plain National Park, which hosts the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa, as well as Kafue National Park, one of Africa’s largest and oldest protected areas.
A personal favourite of The Wild Life team, the Western Circuit is truly the wild west of Zambia.
Southern Circuit
Zambia’s Southern Circuit offers something for everyone. A family favourite, this circuit begins in Livingstone with the world-famous Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Livingstone itself is a microcosm of history, culture, artisan trade and is the hub for Zambian tourism. The Southern Circuit links with the southern end of Kafue National Park, cuts across to Lusaka and drops down into the Lower Zambezi Valley.
The lower Zambezi River supports a tremendous amount of biodiversity, the river- and land-based activities offer truly magical wildlife experiences in a stunning geography.
The route travels back to Livingstone offers to two options: a rougher track that partially follows the footprint of Lake Kariba, the world’s largest man-made lake by volume, or a tarred road that gives you a real sense of the Zambian countryside, economy and offers wide-open views…with a few special stops along the way! Either route helps you complete a true Zambian adventure.
Northern Circuit
Zambia’s up-and-coming circuit offers more than 15 incredible waterfalls, the Bangweulu Wetlands and Lake Bangweulu, the beaches of Samfya, the iconic Shoebill bird, the world’s largest mammal migration of straw-coloured fruit bats at Kasanka National Park, Shiwa Ng’andu and Kapishya Hotsprings, the truly incredible Lake Tanganyika and the spectacular Mutinondo Wilderness…and that’s just getting started!
Full of prehistoric and modern history and culture, the Northern Circuit is a diverse route that offers something extremely unique for mobile adventurers.
Eastern Circuit
The Eastern Circuit is one of Zambia’s best for wildlife lovers because it focuses on the world famous South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa’s great wildlife havens.
This route also takes you through the remote Nsefu Sector, Luambe National Park and North Luangwa National Park, and connects up with the Northern Circuit on the return to Lusaka.
One incredible option is to tack on a few days at Lake Malawi, which adds a whole other dimension to this circuit, and gives you the best of the beach and the bush.
